(Note: I finished the game on Normal Difficulty with no cheats. Last thing to note is the level cap: while 30 does seem low (and I'd still argue it should be like 5 to 10 levels higher), it is not all that bad as it seems - by the time I finished the game, I was around level 25 to 26. Finally, the ability cooldown system is pretty neat and helps balance the game in an interesting way. Items like food and blessing crystals can make a huge difference in this game, but pure stats and equipment tend to make a lesser difference. Your resources are unlimited, and your word is law.

You fight in the shadows, rooting out small threats before they have the chance to grow. Other things to note include the class-based skill trees which offer a variety of ways to play (and the character classes are significantly different to justify the use of classes in general). The warriors and spies of Avadon are charged to keep them at bay, weak and divided. Healing outside of combat is by far my favorite. Spiderweb did a great job of creating an intricate story while keeping people hooked for a sequel with a spectacular ending.Īnother thing I like is the difference in game mechanics it gives players the power to develop their own strategy. I like the plot of this game quite a lot. But that taste of power really drives you forward to get better and better. You get to do some cool stuff before having to start with your own 1st-level bum. The game, smartly, introduces you with a tutorial consisting of high-level play. From there you get more cards, which lets you do cooler and more powerful things. Basically, you create a character, go exploring and get loot. The art (especially the module covers and illustrations) has a wonderful, Gygax-era feel to it. The CCG aspects feel pretty much removed, and it plays like a tactical RPG, complete with cardboard-standup minis and square-grid map. It's a CCG at it's core, but it doesn't feel like one. So, why bring up a game that might never make it to your mobile device? Because Card Hunter is pretty amazing, that's why. The political intrigue, the freedom of choice, the enormous cast of characters, all of it mixes. Card Hunter is a Flash-based game that you can play in your browser, but an iPad and Android Tablet version is "possible". The downside is that the realm here does feel a little generic as far as fantasy goes most of the time, which is a bit of a disappointment compared to, say, the flea-ridden pesky unicorns in the Avernum series, but Avadon still never feels dull. Card Hunter has been released by Blue Manchu.
